WORLD STUDENTS’ DAY: THE TRANSFORMATION OF EDUCATION BEGINS WITH TEACHERS

A teacher’s responsibility is to make educated and sensible professional judgments for students who follow their advice and direction. The key responsibility of an educator is to think critically about how to best assist their students to learn in the contexts in which they teach. They do it skilfully, wisely, and with respect to the sources, while taking into account their values as well as those of their students and other stakeholders.

Earlier, teachers were perceived as experts who had answers to various queries related to different subjects and were the guardians of all information and knowledge. But that was before the birth of the internet, gadgets, and digital media.  Information is now easily accessible, just a click away. Children and youth take what they learn at early stages of life with them to drive their entire lifetime. They will apply what they have learned to create the life of their dreams.  Needless to say, today’s young minds become tomorrow’s leaders, and teachers have the chance to teach the students during their most influential years, whether through primary school, universities, extracurricular, sports, or regular classrooms.

Every year on October 15, World Students’ Day is observed to honor the birth anniversary of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, a prominent aerospace scientist, India’s 11th president, and globally known as ‘India’s Missile Man’. The day is observed to commemorate his contributions to students and learning across the world.

Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was born on October 15, 1931, at the pilgrimage centre of Rameswaram on Pamban Island, India. He earned his bachelor’s degree in physics from Saint Joseph’s College in Tiruchirappalli. He entered the Defence Research and Development Organization’s Aeronautical Development Establishment after graduating from the Madras Institute of Technology, where he majored in aeronautical engineering. He had a bright and renowned scientific career, rising to become India’s most prominent nuclear scientist in the 1990s.

The theme of World Students’ Day 2022 is “The transformation of education begins with teachers.”

Education has evolved dramatically in recent years. With the introduction of digital media, it has become more dynamic. Artificial intelligence and augmented reality, for example, are adding a new depth to learning. However, the teacher has a significant part to play here. To bridge the gap between the vast amount of information available today and true knowledge. That is education in its purest form.

Teachers should be ready to assist students in understanding facts and ideas that are not included mostly derived from false sources on the internet. Students will have a greater grasp and attention to the topic if teachers connect with them using relevant, real-life examples, occurrences, and so on. They can connect their teachings to a variety of disciplines by using concrete examples. The teacher must act as a constant mentor here to assist the learner in progressing not just from one class to the next but also from one stage to another stage of knowledge.

Unlike in the past, when students only had a few job alternatives such as a doctor, engineer, nurse, lawyer, scientist, accountant, builder, and teacher, there is a tremendous increase in career options in the twenty-first century due to the boom in technology and advancements.

As a result, it is more challenging for students to think carefully and steer their careers on the appropriate path to living a happy and contented life.

We are seeing a lot of bad results across the educational system in India due to a lack of career guidance. It is not due to a shortage of talent or ability. The cause is complex and ultimately boils to a dearth of vision, skill, and forethought in selecting the appropriate career. A teacher can be of great assistance in this situation. They have had comparable experiences and know what works well and what does not. Students must be advised in choosing the finest vocation for their potential and skill, as well as given the ideal platform to exhibit themselves without fear.

There is a lack of knowledge and information about numerous job opportunities accessible to children graduating from high school in India. The culture of consulting a career counselor is non-existent. According to the latest survey, 93% of students were familiar with less than 10 job alternatives such as engineering, medical, law, finance, information technology, and so on. In comparison, there are now over 250 job alternatives available. Hence, the majority of students are unaware of several employment opportunities.

A teacher should first be a leader to shape tomorrow’s leaders.

Teaching is one of the most prestigious and respected professions in the world. Teachers play an essential role in a student’s professional and personal development. Schools are merely the starting point for a student’s journey, and they must prepare the student for successful, happy, fruitful lives by developing their skills and offering the right advice and direction.

Each child in school and youth in university requires individual attention and guidance in order to make wise decisions for themselves. With students being so involved with their subject instructors, it is critical to equip every educator with the skills and resources necessary to make a positive difference. What the world necessitates right now is someone to positively influence the upcoming generations. Someone to encourage and drive students in the right direction, to create an environment in which students desire to acquire knowledge and improve their capabilities. That is a teacher’s new role. Beyond the books and four walls of the classroom.

At Career Prep, we believe that the future growth of a nation ultimately rests in the hands of outstanding educators, who offer education and prepare children to be the nation’s future whilst pushing their creative boundaries. As a result, our faculty not only teaches students but also provides them with appropriate assistance and counseling throughout their educational endeavors. On this World Students’ Day, we celebrate all the individuals who are leading the esteemed profession of teaching and transforming this life-changing field, one guidance at a time, and pay our heartfelt tribute to the father of our nation.
